Fibre optic cables are more efficient and secure than their standard Cat5 and Cat6 copper counterparts, it has been claimed.
According to Cable Organizer, high data transmission rates, greater fidelity, increased bandwidth and much better security make fibre optic leads a much better option than copper cables for a large number of applications.
The company claims that fibre optic leads are also capable of transmitting data over much greater distances than standard RJ45 cables. Data can easily travel up to 80km without the need for amplification.
Paul Holstein, chief operating officer at the firm, said: It can transmit larger quantities of data with far less loss, is able to maintain signals over long distances, carries little risk of corrosion, and is virtually free from interference.
Meanwhile, product marketing manager for active optical cables at Zarlink Semiconductor Ram Rao, told IT Business Edge's Arthur Cole that copper leads will not be suitable for a lot of networking applications in the future.
