Network infrastructure installer Geo has announced it has reached a landmark in the expansion of its British fibre optic cable network.
The firm has installed more than 2,500km of fibre optic lead filled duct in the UK.
The expansion makes Geo the most fibre-rich network operator in the country.
Its network was originally created to support mobile phone company 3 which was Britain's first 3G network provider.
Geo, unlike most fibre optic cable installers, runs its network infrastructure alongside gas pipelines and in London the equipment is installed in the capitals Victorian sewer system.
Chris Smedley, chief executive of Geo, said: "Simply put, we have the most modern dark fibre technology to carry the largest amounts of data as cost effectively as possible."
He added that for many businesses, dedicated fibre optic network equipment offers complete control and does away with the speed issues of sharing bandwidth.
Last month, Draka Communications unveiled a new cabling solution aimed at boosting the uptake of fibre optic networking among businesses.
