Firecomms secures US patent - Fibre Leads

Firecomms secures US patent - Fibre LeadsIrish fibre optic cable manufacturer Firecomms has secured a US patent for its innovative plastic network equipment leads.

The company, which is a leading developer of plastic Optical Fibre leads and surface emitting lasers, announced the patent concession for its OptoLock Plastic Optical Fibre Transceiver yesterday.

OptoLock is a plug-less fibre optic interface which enables network administrators and home users to connect devices quickly and easily to their networks.

The company states that OptoLock is ideal for 100Mbps Ethernet applications and can be used in conjunction with TV peripherals such as set-top boxes.

"As Firecomms has licensed OptoLock technology to several major partners, the patent will assist our partners in protecting their investments in OptoLock-based products," Declan O'Mahoney, chief executive officer of Firecomms said.

Meanwhile, international cabling firm Fibre Associates is planning to expand its Welsh distribution operation, hiring a further 100 people in the coming year.

The company said the expansion was part of its move to meet increasing demand for its products.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19302942-ADNFCR
