Fibre optic multi-meter unveiled by GAO - Fibre Leads

Fibre optic multi-meter unveiled by GAO - Fibre Leads A new multi-meter specifically designed for the testing of fibre optic networking equipment has been launched by GAO Fibre Optics.

The company's portable optical power multi-meter can be tailored to individual customer requirements and modified to make it ideal for testing fibre optic patch leads and patch panels.

It operates at wavelengths of between 800 and 1600nm and can carry out absolute and relative power tests, as well as optical loss tests.

The device features a low-voltage warning and has a capacity for 50 data items.

"This excellent complementary combination of modules makes the testing of fibre optics networks convenient as only one test instrument is required," the company said.

Last month the Telecommunications Industry Association published a new set of fibre optic cable manufacturing standards, which apply to data centre and local area network solutions.

Meanwhile, structured cabling manufacturer CommScope welcomed the new standards, which are used in its Systimax LazrSpeed 550 device.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19361491-ADNFCR
