Fibre optic cables will become the default choice for telecoms and broadband companies in the future, it has been claimed.
According to network security firm SafeNet, cities and towns will benefit from the new cabling infrastructure as voice transmission and data speeds will be markedly improved as a result.
The firm claimed that one of the main reasons for this is that fibre optic lead technology is believed to be fairly impervious to tapping and other security breaches.
However, the company attempted to correct this fallacy by noting that government and military organisations have been eaves dropping on fibre optic transmissions for decades.
The security vendor said that North Korea has intercepted US military communications by tapping fibre optic cables in the past, as has Al Qaeda.
According to online retail expert and director of the IMRG David Smith, companies need to do more to improve internet security issues if they are to boost the number of consumers shopping online.
