College installing new IP network

College installing new IP networkCarlisle College has begun working on its plan to install a new integrated IP technology system.

The educational establishment is installing a new network of telephony system and is laying a series of new cables to hook-up over 250 handsets.

Publictechnology.net reports that Carlisle College has appointed Carillion IT Services as the official partner for this aspect of the £30 million redevelopment.

Moira Tattersall, principal of Carlisle College, told the site he hopes for a new "flexible solution" to fit the needs of both staff and students alike.

He added: "With the contract for our current voice IP provider coming to an end, we had the opportunity to select a new system to ensure staff can continue to work efficiently and without disruption during the rebuilding work and beyond, into the new building when it is approved."

Thurrock district council recently announced is upgrading the cabling network in its Civic Offices in Grays, Essex.

The building is being connected with CAT6 cables, with the network serving over 800 employees.
