CIR to launch active optical cabling report - Fibre Leads Network equipment industry analyst CIR is set to launch a report on the future of active optical cabling in data centres later this year.

The firm will also look into the role of fibre optic leads in business networking, home theatre, consumer electronics, signage, instrumentation and personal electronics.

Active Optical Cabling: A Technology Assessment and Market Forecast will be released in the third quarter of 2009.

The company will compare active optical cabling to lower-cost interfaces – including the serial optic system used in the new USB 3.0 standard and the latest developments in copper cabling, such as Cat6 and Cat7 cables.

CIR's report will contain a granular five-year forecast for the market and will consider how traditional supply chains for data centre and telecoms applications will transfer to the consumer market.

In the final quarter of this year, Corning is set to hold a seminar on the role its fibre optic cable solutions will play in the future of the data centre industry.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19266833-ADNFCR
