Residents in Cardigan claim that high-speed fibre optic cables are already installed in facilities near the town and just need to be linked up, it has been reported.
According to the Tivyside Advertiser, businesses in the area have launched a campaign to boost broadband speeds in the town, which are currently less than 2Mbps the standard that the government expects every internet connection in the UK to be at.
But Alun Gordon, an IT expert at Theatr Mwldan, told the news provider that fibre optic leads have already been installed at Parc Aberporth and businesses could be connected to those.
"I am sure that it would be possible to get this line fitted into the Cardigan exchange so we can all benefit from the high speeds," he said.
However, BT has denied that the fibre optic cables installed at Parc Aberporth could be used to boost broadband speeds in Cardigan.
Meanwhile, BT hopes to have 10 million fibre optic broadband users by 2012.
