Cabling firm creates 100 new jobs - Fibre Leads Fibre optic cabling firm Fibre Associates will create 100 new jobs over the next 12 months.

The company, which is part of the i3 group, is set to expand its Colwyn Bay distribution centre in Mochdre.

Fibre Associates currently employs around 60 people in the region and said it was expanding its operation to meet the demand for new fibre optic lead technology across the UK.

The firm has invested more than £2 million in the new distribution centre, which was opened by Welsh Assembly Government deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones.

Commenting on the expansion, Mr Jones told the BBC: "This development, by a pioneering and fast growing company, will be an important addition to the fibre optic cluster of capabilities and enterprises which is already one of the economic strengths of North Wales.

According product marketing manager for active optical cables at Zarlink Semiconductor Ram Rao, more firms will adopt fibre optic cables in the future because they are more efficient than copper leads and provide greater bandwidth.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19294390-ADNFCR
