Network equipment manufacturer Blackmagic Design has been commended for its innovative fibre optic lead technology that provided technical support during the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics Berlin 2009, it has been reported.
The competition was monitored using several hundred miles of cabling, 120 cameras and 40 of Blackmagic Design's Optical Fibre Mini Converters, according to 4RVF.
Officials also used the firm's Studio Videohub, which was involved in the live high-definition broadcast of the games in 203 countries.
Managing director of Incast, the company responsible for the final broadcast, Andreas Wolf told the news provider: "All live feeds went into the main control room of the host broadcasters' International Broadcast Centre, which was 400 metres away from the stadium."
He added that Blackmagic Design's technology offered major advantages over competitors including the ability to convert both standard and high-definition signals with the same unit.
Earlier this year, BT said it would be putting "reliability ahead of heroics" when it comes to ensuring the 2012 Olympics are pulled off without a hitch.
