Bigger businesses 'will turn to fibre' - Fibre Leads

Bigger businesses 'will turn to fibre' - Fibre Leads Companies that demand more from their network equipment will turn to fibre optic leads as opposed to standard Cat5 and Cat6 copper cabling, it has been claimed.

According to Ram Rao, product marketing manager for active optical cables at Zarlink Semiconductor, told IT Business Edge's Arthur Cole that while copper leads are suitable for many business solutions today, in the future they won't be.

"Data centers that today are moving to 10Gbps, in two to three years they will be at 20Gbp," Mr Rao told the news provider.

He added: "The very fundamental thing to keep in mind... is that data rates on all these things are going up. As they go up, it becomes more difficult for copper to deal with."

Meanwhile, H2O Networks is set to expand its Fibrezone in Yorkshire.
The firm already has next generation fibre optic cabling installed for business broadband in the centre of Sheffield.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19264961-ADNFCR
