The speeds offered by ADSL are not as impressive as those provided by fibre leads, it has been claimed.
Michael Phillips, product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, believes the success of packages from O2 and Virgin are good but they still do not provide the consistency of fibre leads.
According to the website, the average reliability of cable broadband is 50.5 per cent compared to 38.8 per cent for ADSL.
Mr Phillips said firms such as O2 and Virgin are consistently delivering speeds of 6Mb and more through their super-fast packages, but questioned how the latter would fare with its upcoming products.
"6MB is still a far cry from the kind of speeds that would be offered by fibre connections and it will be interesting to see how Virgin Media's 50Mb package performs when it's launched later this year," he told the news provider.
In other news, Gordon Laing, from What PC?, claims those looking to increase their broadband speeds should invest in Cat 6 cables.
