Fibre cables to enhance broadband in Yorkshire

Fibre cables to enhance broadband in YorkshireTwo Yorkshire villages are to see greatly improved broadband services thanks to fibre cables.

Great and Little Ouseburn will benefit from super-fast broadband as a result of the Connecting North Yorkshire initiative, reports the Ripon Gazette.

David Burton, one of the community champions for the Great Ouseburn Connecting North Yorkshire project, told the newspaper: “This is wonderful news. The availability of high speed broadband will enhance the personal and business lives of people within our communities who currently suffer from poor broadband services."

The project, which was led by North Yorkshire County Council and its partners NYnet and Broadband Delivery UK, was funded by £17.8 million by BDUK.

The cash was allocated as part of government plans to help 90 per cent of the UK get high quality web access by 2015.

Last week, it was reported that Bournemouth's ultra-fast fibre cable broadband network is nearing completion, meaning people in the town will have access to speeds of up to 100Mbps.
