Homes and businesses in Bournemouth are set to benefit from some of the latest fibre cablenetworking equipment.
According to Fibrecity, the new fibre optic network will promote technological best practice among the city's businesses.
The new system, which is being installed in the city's waste water and sewage system, will allow for greater download speeds and a more reliable service.
Some 30 homes are expected to be connected to the network by the end of March this year.
Bob Rhodes, IT manager at Bournemouth borough council, commented: "Using the sewer network is also a more environmentally friendly way to lay the fibre optic cable."
The network is hoped to push business toward allowing their employees to work from home.
Meanwhile, D-Link manufactures a device which allows signals transmitted down an Ethernet cable to be converted for transmission down a fibre cable, allowing high speed access to fibre optic networks.
