Fibre cable delivers faster broadband, says expert - Network Cables

Fibre cable delivers faster broadband, says expert - Network CablesVirgin Media has explained how households and businesses with fibre cable broadband will get the broadband speeds that are advertised.

Writing for the Daily Mirror, Neil Berkett, the company's chief executive, points out that millions of people do not get the speeds they were promised when they signed up, with one of the causes being the fact that speed is lost the further a home is away from an exchange.

However, he adds that, by using broadband delivered through fibre cables, much faster speeds could be achieved.

"Because we don't use old-fashioned phone lines but instead use a next generation fibre optic cable network, many of our customers already get 100 per cent of the headline speed they buy from us and most of our customers get at least 90 per cent, even at the busiest times," he writes.

"And we are continuing to invest in our network so we can deliver more of what you are paying for - whether on 10Mb, 20Mb, 50Mb or our soon to launch 100Mb broadband service."
