Cat5 is standard for digital video - Network Cables

Cat5 is standard for digital video - Network Cables Cat5 cable is the standard choice for businesses and individuals wanting to transmit high quality digital video, it has been claimed.

According to Digital Signage Today, although there is a large number of ways to connect video equipment and expand transmission distances, content is usually distributed over Cat5 cable or wireless transmission.

Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6 and even Cat7 twisted-pair copper cabling is often used when video is sent from a transmitter to a receiver.

"The main advantage of wired solutions, especially with analog, is that they are relatively inexpensive. With Cat5 cable being especially plentiful and the cost of receivers and transmitters being relatively low, wired presents an affordable solution," the website states.

Meanwhile, Chuck Peterson, vice-president of marketing for network equipment firm Avocent, said in terms of reduced cost, cable extenders provide a real return on investment.

Earlier this week, however, Siemon warned network infrastructure installers to be wary of differing transmission standards.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19151200-ADNFCR
