Cat5 cabling for video installation

Cat5 cabling for video installationA leading manufacturer of camera control systems has provided a US audio equipment firm with a complete new high-definition video solution.

Spectrum Sound has installed the system provided by Vaddio in the Gladeville Baptist Church to allow magnification of certain parts of the church's services – including baptisms.

The installation uses the latest Quick Connect CCU cabling system, which allows the use of Cat5 cabling for both standard and high-definition video.

Quick Connect also allows users to control video equipment from a distance of 500 feet.

Jeff McGee, video systems engineer for Spectrum Sound, said: "The CAT 5 cabling is nice and the CCU capability was the added benefit that rounded out the whole product package."

"Ultimately we ended up with a much quicker, neater installation with less labour costs," he added.

Cat5 cable has been superseded by Cat5e cabling, which was formally defined as a cabling standard in 2001.
