One in ten network integrators expect to see the next generation of network cables become standard within two years. In a study conducted by CE Pro, ten per cent of respondents offered the view that Cat 7 will replace Cat 6 cables by 2014.
The new standard offers performance of up to 600 MHz over distances of up to 100 metres.
According to the news provider, the higher performance is achieved by requiring each of the twisted wire pair to be fully shielded.
However, not all network integrators are as bullish about the new cabling standard.
A further 19 per cent said they expect the current cabling standard to remain in use for the next 15 years, while 20 per cent had not heard of Cat 7 cable.
