Copper will continue to dominate LAN cabling sector - RJ45 Patch Leads

Copper will continue to dominate LAN cabling sector - RJ45 Patch Leads Copper will continue to dominate the local area network (LAN) structured cabling sector despite the steady advance of fibre optic lead technology, it has been claimed.

According to Frank Murawski, founder of FTM Consulting, industry experts widely expected fibre optic transmission to displace traditional copper technology, but copper cabling has managed to keep up in terms of performance.

He claimed that copper has managed to satisfy high-bandwidth demands from small businesses and consumers.

"Copper cabling will continue to be the dominant cabling used in horizontal LAN cabling applications," he said.

However, Mr Murawski added: "Our analysis indicates that fibre cabling will increasingly be used in data centre applications and remain the backbone mainstay for the enterprise's core network."

According to PC World, users can get the most out of their home-networked devices with the use of high-bandwidth copper cabling – offered by Cat5 and Cat6 leads – or by using fibre optic connectors.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19399320-ADNFCR
