Network attached storage market booming

Network attached storage market boomingBusinesses around the world are continuing to purchase network attached storage to store vast amounts of data and the market is booming.

This is the view of business journalist Daniel Sorid, who points out that while network attached storage has long been attractive to businesses it is now taking off in the home.

Writing in the New York Times he says external hard drives are becoming more user-friendly, allowing non-commercial customers to enjoy their benefits as well.

He points out that several manufacturers of network attached storage are bringing forward a "new generation" of external hard drives that connect to home networks.

They allow users to store data such as text documents and spreadsheets as well as pictures, videos and music files from multiple computers around the home on a single device.

Mike Wolf, director of ABI Research, told Teleclick.ca that home networking is no longer an "early adopter technology" and more households are setting up networks that include PCs, laptops, games consoles and Wi-Fi enabled mobile phones.

Demand for network attached storage among non-business consumers is therefore expected to grow considerably.
