NAS recommended for digital data storage

NAS recommended for digital data storageUsing a network attached storage (NAS) device can help keep digital data stored, organised and shared securely, according to one news provider.

Australian IT claims many consumers and businesses keep files on several different PCs with little thought about how the information will be shared, while also running the risk of losing important data.

NAS devices were once only used by large corporate IT networks the website states, but a drop in costs coupled with technological advancements has led to them increasing in popularity in small offices and homes.

The apparatus is suitable for people with large levels of information to be stored, and once connected it can be viewed by all the computers on the network, the news provider adds.

"By ensuring data is stored on it rather than locally on individual hard drives, order can be brought to even large amounts of digital data … as well as being a central store, a properly configured NAS device can also provide the security of backup," the publication states.

In other news, WD(R) has launched its new WD ShareSpace high-speed network storage systems which it claims provides cost-effective, centralised storage for small offices and home networks.
