Kontron and Astute Networks to launch streaming video benchmark

Kontron and Astute Networks to launch streaming video benchmarkA new streaming video read/write benchmark is set to be unveiled at the GSMA Mobile World Congress Exhibition in Barcelona this week.

Kontron and Astute Networks, which is a leading supplier of bladed networking equipment, have teamed up to produce the standard, which is aimed at telecoms and network solutions providers which use AdvancedTCA (ATCA) technology.

The streaming video device will feature the Kontron OM9020, the Astute Networks Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade and the Kontron AT8030 ATCA 10GbE node server, which can be mounted in a server rack or server cabinet.

With 375MB per second read rates and 68,000 input/outputs per second, the content distribution solution is powered by three Core 2 Duo processors, each with an independent diskless server with dedicated memory.

When scaled up the platform "supports 1,800 movies within 9TB of storage deployable for central office environments. Any similar proprietary configuration would require nearly three times the space and power", the company claims.

In related news the Barbican is set to host the Data Centre World Conference & Expo on February 24th and 25th – which will have a host of networking and video streaming innovations on display.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19027930-ADNFCR
