First USB 3.0 storage solution unveiled

First USB 3.0 storage solution unveiledSeagate and Symwave will demonstrate the world's first USB 3.0 storage solution at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas later this month.

The device will be the first of its kind to use the new USB specification and will allow the streaming of data at speeds unobtainable with previous versions of the technology.

Rapidly emerging in the storage field, USB 3.0 promises data transfer speeds of up to ten times faster than those offered by existing equipment.

The new technology will also be backward compatible with the existing ten billion USB devices in use throughout the world.

Yossi Cohen, president and chief executive officer of Symwave, said the company is "honoured to be working with Seagate in this show of the first USB 3.0 solution in a real world application of data backup, storage and media streaming."

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Windows 7 is not backward compatible with legacy USB networking equipment.ADNFCR-1186-ID-18958378-ADNFCR
