A new wireless device that can monitor energy consumption and heat dissipation in data centres has been unveiled by Arch Rock
The Energy Optimiser Data Centre Edition (AREO-DC) is the first device of its kind to measure both power and cooling system efficiency.
According to the firm, it provides a range of benchmarks for power consumption, temperature, humidity, air quality and cost.
It is also capable of identifying factors that can result in energy wastage.
Arch Rock claims that the device allows firms to optimise their operation and discern the true electrical consumption of equipment, rather than the overstated manufacturers' ratings.
Recently, Greg Rottman, assistant director in the IT lab at the US Army Engineer Research and Development Centre, said that as well as making equipment easier to access, good cable management can reduce a data centre's cooling bill.
Mr Rottman added that managing structured cabling was a much about discipline and record keeping as it was about using the latest conduit technology.
