Networking solutions provider The Planet has announced plans to open an international data centre in London.
According to the firm's chairman and chief executive officer Douglas Erwin, The Planet's global expansion plans hinge on the development of European markets.
He claimed that there was serious customer interest in the region, meaning opening a centre in Britain's capital was the right move.
The new data centre would include server racks and server cabinets with 20kW of power and the network equipment would be backed up by N+1 redundancy on generators, transformers and UPS systems.
According to Mr Erwin, private customers will be able to connect directly to the company's data centre via fibre optic cables, ensuring 10Gb data transfer rates.
He concluded: "With 42 per cent of our customers located in international markets, we expect considerable interest in this new operation."
Meanwhile, IBM has opened its first cloud computing centre in Ireland.
