One of the leading providers of green data centre network equipment in the US is launching operations in Europe, as demand for environmentally-friendly technology increases.
Speaking to BusinessGreen.com, Rackable Systems' managing director for Europe Rod Evans said the company plans to open an office in the UK later this year, followed by a second in northern Europe in late 2009 or early 2010.
"A lot of the momentum for green IT has come from northern Europe in recent years and while we have a reasonable presence in Europe through our US customers, the time is right to address more opportunities in the region," he told the news provider.
He added that one of the major problems for data centres was inefficient AC/DC converters - which generally waste more than 20 per cent of the energy they are supplied with - and there is generally one converter for every device in a server rack or cabinet.
According to Nebulas Solutions, making networking equipment more efficient can result in reduced costs.
