Network equipment manufacturer Gefen has created a new HDMI extender which is compatible with legacy cabling.
The device allows users to wire up high-definition devices such as LCD TVs, projectors and Blu-ray players using existing RGB leads.
Gefen hopes the new HDMI over RGB Extender will save people money on cabling costs and as it is usable up to a range of 330 ft will allow people to network devices in different rooms.
Users are expected to connect the sender and receiver units to their high-definition devices using HDMI cabling, but then standard coaxial cables can be used to network the equipment.
"You'll still get the full 1080p video, 7.1 surround sound of the latest Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats, deep color, lip sync and everything else that comes along with HDMI," Electronic House states.
Earlier this week, the BBC upgraded its iPlayer by adding high-definition streaming and downloading capabilities.
