A rise in server shipments during the first three months of 2012 may have increased business demand for server racks.According to IT analyst Gartner, sales were up 1.5 per cent during the first three months of the year.
Jeffrey Hewitt, research vice president at Gartner, noted that this was "relatively weak" growth, but the market remained in positive territory.
He explained that there was variation in results according to region, with all areas except Western Europe seeing an increase in shipments.
Eastern Europe grew the most significantly in shipments with a 16 per cent increase, while Japan posted the highest vendor revenue growth at 10.6 per cent for the period.
"In terms of revenue, Asia/Pacific, Middle East/Africa, and Western Europe posted declines," Mr Hewitt noted.
However, he said these results are "not that surprising" considering the current variations in regional economic conditions.
